I have just came down with the flu , bad case over night (wed.) I am feeling a lot better but that hit me like a freight train. Dr. Dan is kind of slow in the morning so we always take advantage of that.
I was there at 8:15 am and he said ” what now Tim” my reply was I think I have the flu which is going around. Dr. Dan was walking into the office same time as I was. There was one person being already cared for, so Dr. takes me in his office. He checks all my vital signs and says yup you have the flu. He begins to write and asks if I want a shot or take pills . What is quicker, this is painful I replied. Dr. Dan says” the shot is much quicker but it hurts a little” . He wrote prescriptions for next 5-7 days, and said;wait and I will give you the shot.
The shot was a little painful and worth it.
I arrived at 8:15 and was out of the office by 8:45. Try to go early or call and see when is good time
(pending condition).
I hate waiting in Dr. offices , must be from all them times in the states.Have a appointment and wait 2 hours for ten minutes of the state side Dr.s time and that will be $150. dollars. Not even a kiss , boy its nice to have great services here in San Pedro.
I just came from the state and saw flu shots advertised for $50 us dollars (cvs).
My cost shot in my butt and visit $22.50 us bucks, medication $20.00. I still feel like crap but I am at my desk working Yesterday I was down for the count.
I am so glad I live and invested here in Belize. Thank God I got my money tied up here ,instead of the Stock Market( We were heavily into the market). Life is not about money, it is happiness. Please don’t think you can just come here to Belize, do your research and ask many questions because you can fail here easy. Dr Dan: Cyst Removal

I went to Dr. Dan because I had a Cyst beside my knee, that had been there for years. It was not painful and did not bother me. I just wanted it removed, and figured this would be valuable information .

He removes cyst, (hey Tim, little support please). He stitches me up.It took about 20 minutes

I have to take antibiotics for 7 to 10 days, and keep it clean.
US$75.00 (no waiting)

Tim and I waited 10 minutes in the waiting room. Normally you don’t wait long for medical attention if you call and schedule before. Tim called in the morning and he had said come in at 2:00 in the afternoon.
We have many great Doctors, it is a matter of who you feel more comfortable with, and who; is available. Thanks Dr. Dan, we are lucky to have you on our little island.
Today I get my stitches out, Yea!

Doctors still make house calls

Hi Everyone, sorry for being out of touch. I have had a rough couple weeks. Since my last post I had a Kidney infection and computer issues which made my everyday work schedule pile up.

One morning I got up out of bed with a slight back pain, which I was sure was due the way I must have slept. I was sure it would go away, but a few days latter I started coming down with a fewer and the pain got worse. I kept an ice pack on me to keep the fever down. The next day the pain got a little worse. Tim kept insisting that I should see a doctor. I kept putting it off. This went on for a week. By the time I was ready to see the doctor the pain was bad. The pain was unbearable and I could not move.
The Doctors on island know that I am a big chicken when it comes to needles and poking and prodding, so of course, I put it off. Tim finally called Dr. Dan, he had a office full of patients and requested us to come in. Tim explained the situation and Dr. Dan promised to come over at lunch time. We had a vehicle waiting for him (Thanks Heraldo), above you can see how they spent lunch.

The next day I was still hurting, but I had to go in for some blood work and another shot (which everybody knows I just Love). The trip there was a painful one, but; my respect for their time far out weighed my discomfort. Everyone should know! That if you can make it to the doctors office, do so. The Doctors are very busy, and only; do house calls when it is a emergency. They came to me two hours after Tim called. No waiting room, no insurance the best affordable health care anyone could ask for.Nurse Veronica Nunez assure me she will not hurt me with needle. I could not even feel it.

Thanks Veronica. Tim called before we came so that there was no waiting. When we arrived they took me to one of the rooms and began taking blood pressure, shot , ect. We decided to do a full blown battery of tests to see if we could catch two fish with one sardine. They said when you get my age you should do preventative maintenance. Sounds Like my old Mercedes, Thanks a lot Doc.!!!Nurse Veronica told Tim he could use some preventative maintenance himself. I did’n see him giving any Blood. We are really blessed here on this island that we have many Doctors like Dr. Dan Gonzales .

I am recovering well, the tests were a good idea. They found that my cholesterol and sugar levels are a little high. I have decided to try to control my cholesterol levels with a diet. I will have to be retested after a few weeks on my new diet.
Costs: House call plus 3 shots and a blood test=50 U.S Dollars
Medication for one week = 40. U.S.
Additional preventative tests Laboratory and Blood work = 225.U.S.

Tim and I are trying to take better care of of ourselves medically so we headed off for the city. We are doing a lot of preventative maintenance these days. The doctors keep saying preventative maintenance is the best medicine. That reminds me of my 30 year old car, 240D, still running.
We hopped in the cab at municipal airport in which Spanish was driving. We asked our friend and cab driver to take us to Dr. Bradley’s office. He new exactly where it was and every other establishment we were going to.

Since Tim has skin cancer that runs in his family I figured I better go along, after all there was no pain. I had a few questions about a few spots.

Looks like he needs to cut back on the rice and beans .
Dr. Bradley has been one our favorite, professional doctors. She is very thorough and quite funny.
She did find some precancerous spots on Tim and he is working with her now. The visit was US$27.50 each
Tim must use daily sunscreen or he will continue to have problems. We are really happy to have caught this early.
We did some shopping at Brodie’s Supermarket on regent ST. They have great sales on products that are about to expire. You can cut your grocery bill in half. We spent about BZ$400. This helped pay for our trip and we had fun at the same time.
